community Wellness
When we discuss wellness at EGC, we are talking about more than just an individual’s physical health. Our wellness programs, focus on addressing and building Community Wellness through educational & social events, plant donation through our Plant Jam, and direct care packages. Through this robust programming, we are strengthening our community’s health and connectivity as we grow and learn together.
Throughout the year, EGC organizes and hosts a variety of large-scale, community celebrations. These gatherings also serve as a space where we can distribute practical resources and educational materials, in addition to event activities.
Community Event Series
This is an interactive opportunity geared towards school aged children to learn about and celebrate nature. We host upwards of 300 people at this event. We pass out plants and other related garden or climate items.
Earth day
This is a more intimate celebration for Black Mothers to relax, recharge, and be in community together. We bring in local healers to help curate the space with event highlights like chair massages, sound baths, or facials.
mother’s day
This is a big celebration for Black folks, it has a block party vibe. We bring in a DJ, have food catered, host activities, and have a joyful day celebrating Black folks liberation past present and future. We see upwards of 500 community members attending this event.
JUNETEENTH
This is one of our biggest events of the year serving up to 500 kids. We pass out all kinds of amazing resources to Black students from back packs, to socks + sneakers, coats, books, hair care product, and more. Our goal is to help families prepare for school and remove some of the financial strain for caregivers.
BACK TO SCHOOL
Our last event of the year we celebrate community with a big event distributing resources, holiday themed items + gift but also practical things like household care kits, books, and self care items. We push out over $120K worth of resources to 500 families. Many of the items we distribute are donated from local businesses.
HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA
Every February we make 150 care packages. We gather items from the community and create care packages filled with fun and practical items for our Black Elders. We distribute these via a community nomination process, at our weekly Market, and through a few partner organizations. This is an opportunity to celebrate our Elders.
BLACK ELDER CARE PACKAGES
This program was created in order to uplift Black maternal health + wellness. EGC supports this initiative through resource distribution, uplifting educational information, connections + referrals, and cohort outings.
EGC currently serves 31 families with weekly food boxes, diaper/wipe support, and Blooming Boxes as they welcome their new additions.
